Housing Discrimination - Fair Housing

Fair Housing Information
Find information below on who and what is covered under the law.
The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing since of:
- Race.
- Color.
- National Origin.
- Religion.
- Sex.
- Familial Status.
- Disability.
What Is Prohibited?
In the Sale and Rental of Housing:
It is prohibited discrimination to take any of the following actions since of race, color, religious beliefs, sex, disability, familial status, or nationwide origin:
- Refuse to rent or offer housing.
- Refuse to work out for housing.
- Otherwise make housing not available.
- Set different terms, conditions or opportunities for sale or leasing of a residence.
- Provide a person various housing services or centers.
- Falsely deny that housing is available for assessment, sale or leasing.

- Evict a renter or a renter's visitor.
- Harass an individual.

- Limit privileges, services or centers of a house.
- Discourage the purchase or leasing of a home.
- Assign a person to a specific structure or neighborhood or area of a structure or community.
- For profit, encourage, or try to convince, house owners to sell their homes by suggesting that individuals of a particular secured quality are about to move into the community (blockbusting).
- Refuse to supply or discriminate in the terms or conditions of homeowners insurance coverage because of the race, color, religious beliefs, sex, special needs, familial status, or nationwide origin of the owner and/or occupants of a home.
- Deny access to or subscription in any several listing service or genuine estate brokers' company.
In Mortgage Lending:
It is prohibited discrimination to take any of the following actions based upon race, color, religious beliefs, sex, impairment, familial status, or national origin:
- Refuse to make a mortgage loan or offer other monetary assistance for a home.
- Refuse to offer details relating to loans.
- Impose various terms or conditions on a loan, such as various interest rates, points, or charges.
- Discriminate in appraising a house.
- Condition the schedule of a loan on an individual's response to harassment.
- Refuse to acquire a loan.
Harassment:
The Fair Housing Act makes it illegal to pester individuals due to the fact that of race, color, religion, sex, impairment, familial status, or nationwide origin. Among other things, this forbids sexual harassment.
